Yesterday, the Shanghai Securities News learned that SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle strategy has been running at the same time in two steps. That is, while establishing a product platform with Iveco, SAIC Motor's own commercial vehicle development platform was launched internally. Iveco also hopes that by means of cooperation, it will be able to expand its market share in China and turn China's production base into a platform for its global exports. If the two parties cooperate successfully, they can replicate the success of Shanghai GM in the field of commercial vehicles.
Xiao Guopu, vice president of Shanghai Automotive, told Shanghai Securities News, “With the full cooperation of Shangnan, Nanjing Iveco has become a new starting point for domestic light commercial vehicles. We and Iveco’s strategic cooperation has also deepened, from the original cooperation in heavy truck and engine products. In the field of medium and light commercial vehicles."
At present, SAIC and Iveco have three joint venture companies that manufacture complete vehicles and core components: SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Company, SAIC Fiat Hongyan Engine Co., Ltd., and Nanjing Iveco. With the implementation of SAIC Motor’s promotion strategy for commercial vehicles, SAIC Motor’s passenger leg length and commercial leg length are improving.
The data shows that the increase in sales of commercial vehicles for SAIC Motor in the first quarter has already surpassed that of passenger cars. These are just starting stages. Xiao Guopu pointed out that "according to the established deployment, we will continue to develop commercial vehicle business, and strive to expand and strengthen commercial vehicle business in a shorter period of time."
Iveco is a world-renowned commercial vehicle company with advanced technologies such as China Card, heavy trucks, passenger cars and new commercial vehicles.

Paul Monteferino, President of Fiat Group Iveco, told the Shanghai Securities News: “We are recognized as a leader in low-emission vehicles in Europe. We will play this advantage in China. Once this goal is achieved, SAIC and Iveco will each have their place. SAIC's shortcomings in commercial vehicles will gradually be filled, and Iveco will use its low cost advantage to occupy a larger international market.
