Hyundai Heavy Industries and Cummins Corporation recently held a signing ceremony in Ulsan, South Korea, for the establishment of Hyundai Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. HCEC. The two companies will each hold a 50% stake in the new company.
HCEC will be built in Daegu, South Korea, and will begin production of engines in 2014. Its production capacity will reach 50,000 engines/year. The new company will supply 5.9 to 8.9-liter engines for Hyundai Heavy Industries' production of industrial equipment in Ulsan.
Byeong-Ku Choe, chief operating officer of the Ministry of Modern Construction Equipment, said that Cummins has recognized strength and is an important partner of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. The establishment of a new joint venture between the two companies is a matter of course.
