How to save fuel in cars

Do not turn on warm air during winter season.

“In the winter, how can my car be fuel-efficient?” In response to queries from many private car owners, we invited Liu Yiquan, Manager of Maintenance Technology Department of Zhejiang Baotong Automobile Co., Ltd., to answer them.

Q: Why is the winter fuel consumption lower than summer?

Liu Yiquan: There are mainly these reasons for winter fuel consumption: 1. The oil used for lubrication rises in the winter to increase the viscosity of the engine, which will increase the engine load. The performance of the engine will be fuel consumption. 2. Due to the low outdoor temperature, the hot car time will increase accordingly, and it will need to consume more. 3. More fuel; 3. The temperature required for normal engine operation is high. In winter, many vehicle owners drive when the engine does not reach the operating temperature. If the fuel is not fully burned, it is easy to form carbon deposits and it also causes high fuel consumption. 4. Idling hot car, because the engine temperature is less than the normal operating temperature, the engine will increase the amount of fuel injection, change the ignition advance angle to maintain the temperature.

Q: Is the heating in the car costing oil?

Liu Yiquan: It's fuel-efficient, but it's not as expensive as air conditioning in the summer. Air conditioning and refrigeration require the use of a compressor, and the operation of the compressor consumes more fuel. The principle of opening the warm air in winter is different. Instead of using a compressor, it uses the temperature of the engine's coolant to heat it, that is, it blows the heat released by the engine itself into the cabin through a blower. Although the operation of the blower requires electricity, it will increase the engine load and consume fuel, but it is far less than the degree of fuel consumption when air conditioning was started in summer.

However, when the car is started or when it is still warm, do not turn on the warm air, because the engine is still not hot, and the cold air is blown in, which also consumes electricity in vain and increases the engine load. It's best not to turn on warm air when you stop at idle.

If it is necessary to save fuel and heat, it is recommended that the owner can open the outer loop after driving to 40-50 yards. The fresh air flowing outside the car will also pass through the heater tank and will bring heat.

Q: How to start a car in winter is more fuel-efficient?

Liu Yiquan: It's best to warm up the car for a minute or two first, then start slowly, drive the car while driving, and then reach normal driving speed. In short, try to stay a little longer than usual. If the local warm-up time is too long, the fuel consumption is also very severe.
