Using blast furnace residual pressure to generate electricity
In January 2007, Dagang signed a contract with China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Investment Co., Ltd. (referred to as environmental protection company), which was responsible for the transformation of two 480-cubic-meter steel-making blast furnaces at Dagang. The two blast furnaces release the huge pressure of the top of the furnace in vain every day. The environmental protection company is making a fuss about this pressure: from the gas line pressure reducing valve of the blast furnace, the turbine is introduced into the expansion work to drive the generator to generate electricity (referred to as the TRT project).
Large domestic steel companies using blast furnace residual pressure have long been adopted. However, it is mainly used in large blast furnaces of more than 1000 cubic meters. 480 cubic meters of blast furnace applications like Dagang are rare. The TRT project uses a new technology similar to the “one for two†of air conditioners, which is to concentrate the residual pressure generated by two 480 cubic meters of blast furnaces into a turbine to generate electricity.
With the support of Dagang, the TRT project is progressing rapidly: the construction started in late May 2007, the installation of equipment in September, and the successful power generation on the grid on December 25.
On January 10, 2008, at the completion ceremony of the TRT project, Jiang Shanming was happy to close his mouth: the blast furnace residual pressure can generate 28 million kWh of electricity a year. These electricity can be used for the production of Dagang, which can save more than 15 million yuan in electricity bills. Of course, what makes him happy is that energy-saving and consumption-reducing this high-energy-consuming enterprise has handed over a satisfactory answer to the government and the society.
The new mechanism of "do not spend a penny"
The environmental protection company's TRT project completed for Dagang is groundbreaking: this is the first successful example of China's energy-saving transformation of medium-sized steelmaking blast furnaces using the “contract energy management†mechanism.
In the TRT project, Dagang does not have to pay a penny for the renovation fee, and only needs to sign a commission contract with the environmental protection company. The environmental protection company pays for the project, and carries out engineering design, equipment ordering, installation and commissioning for the transformation of the blast furnace of Dagang, until the grid is connected to generate electricity. After the completion of the project, Dagang will not need to withdraw funds from the production funds or profits for project expenditure, as long as it is paid from the annual energy savings in the previous three years. That is to say, the 28 million kWh electricity generated every year after the transformation of the blast furnace of Dagang is used for the production of Dagang, and it can pay less than 15 million yuan in electricity. Dagang only needs to pay part of the savings to pay for the environmental protection company. After the expiration of the contract, the entire project was handed over to Dagang Steel without compensation.
The “contract energy management†mechanism adopted by the TRT project is an energy-saving service management method introduced from abroad. The essence is to pay for the development cost of the project with the saved energy costs. Li Longsheng, deputy general manager of China Environmental Protection Investment Corporation, the parent company of the environmental protection company, told reporters: "The contract energy management mechanism is used to carry out energy-saving project transformation, and the risks are all borne by ourselves. The enterprises to be transformed are paid after the energy-saving effect is obtained. And it is paid from the savings, not taking up its production and liquidity. We are dividing profits from the benefits of energy-saving transformation, which is a win-win mode of operation."
Great energy saving potential and more market services
Without spending a penny, the two blast furnaces of Dagang completed the energy-saving renovation. For Dagang, this transformation can be described as “nothing is profitableâ€: in addition to the annual benefit of more than 15 million yuan, adjusting and balancing the furnace pressure makes the production process more reasonable and smooth, eliminating the huge noise when the original furnace pressure is discharged. Pollution; the most important thing is to complete the energy conservation and consumption reduction tasks given to enterprises by the state and local governments to a certain extent.
According to estimates by relevant experts, there are more than 150 medium-sized blast furnaces (450-1000 cubic meters) that have been transformed by Dagang.
If these blast furnaces can implement energy-saving renovation like Dagang, then the country can save at least 3 billion kWh per year and create more than 2 billion yuan.
