The cylinder is filled with a suitable grinding medium - steel rod. Under the action of centrifugal force and friction force, the grinding medium is lifted to a certain height and falls down in a falling or falling state. The material to be milled continuously enters the inside of the cylinder by the feeding port, is crushed by the moving grinding medium, and discharges the product out of the machine through the overflow and continuous feeding force to carry out the next process operation.
The three main uses of the rod mill:
1. tungsten, tin ore and other rare metal ore reselection or magnetic separation plant, in order to prevent excessive crushing hazards caused, often using a rod mill;
2. When using the two-stage grinding process, if the first section is milled from 20 to 6 mm to 3 to 1 mm, the rod mill is used as the first section of the grinding equipment , the production capacity is larger and the efficiency is higher. . Since the bar-to-charge ratio of a certain weight is much smaller than the surface area of ​​the weight ball, the rod mill is less productive and efficient than the ball mill in the second stage of fine grinding;
3. In some cases, it can be used instead of a short-head cone crusher for fine crushing. When dealing with softer or less hard ores (especially viscous ores), use a rod mill to grind 19-25 mm (or even 32 mm) ore to 6-10 mesh than to use a short cone. The configuration of the mining machine and the screen in the closed circuit is simple, the cost is also low, and the dust removal in the crushing workshop can be simplified. For hard ore, it may be economical to use a short-head conical crusher and a screen to close the road. In the design of the competition for ball milling or the use of rod mills, must be based on specific circumstances to compare the program to determine.
Rod mill performance characteristics:
The structure of the rod mill is roughly the same as that of other mills, but there are three differences:
1. The ratio of the length to the diameter of the cylinder is generally 1.5-2.0, and the inner surface of the liner on the end cover should be a vertical plane. The purpose is to prevent and reduce the chaotic movement, bending and breaking of the steel rod in the cylinder to ensure The steel rod moves regularly. The ratio of the barrel length to the diameter of the ball mill is small, and in most cases the ratio is only slightly greater than one.
2. Instead of grid plating, the overflow type and open type discharge are used; the hollow journal diameter of the discharge end is generally larger than that of the same size ball mill. The rotation speed of the cylinder should be lower than the working speed of the ball mill of the same specification, so that the medium inside is in the sloping state.
3. Commonly used steel rods with diameter of 50-100mm as grinding medium, and ball mills use steel balls as grinding medium. The length of steel rod is 25-50mm shorter than that of cylinder, and high carbon steel with carbon content of 0.8%-1% is often used. Manufacture; The loading of the rod is about 35%-45% of the effective volume. When viewed with the naked eye, the horizontal plane of the rod is about 100-200 m below the centerline of the cylinder.
