Application of ARC Power Factor Controller in Chemical Industry

I. Industry status

Domestic chemical industry mainly includes coal chemical industry, petrochemical industry, salt chemical industry, pharmaceutical chemical industry and so on. The production operations of chemical companies are generally continuous, mainly reflected in the continuity of logistics and the stability of the entire system. Not only materials, logistics, but also water, electricity, gas, heating and so on. In other words, the industry has basically no impact load. There are only different load sizes at different times or no changes in load (1).

Second, the necessity of reactive power compensation in the chemical industry

The power consumption in chemical production occupies a large proportion in the production cost. From the perspective of power saving, although power management has been strengthened and some power-saving products have been promoted, it has not yet met the requirements of the state for energy conservation and consumption reduction of enterprises. The power factor has been running between 0.4-0.7 for a long time, and a lot of invalid energy consumption has been achieved. It is quite serious, and it is often fined because the power factor cannot meet the requirements. At the same time, extensive application of power electronic equipment to generate harmonic currents and harmonic voltages is seriously polluting the power grid. The main causes of the increasingly serious harmonic problems are as follows: effective and flexible control over reactive power, harmonics, and three-phase imbalances cannot be implemented, and the overall quality of the power cannot be improved, and the harmonic content is reduced, making the operating environment of the power grid increasingly hostile. At the same time, there are great hidden dangers to the safe operation of the equipment. In view of this, in order to reduce the large amount of reactive power consumption, fines in the power sector, and safe operation of equipment, it is necessary to perform reactive power compensation (1).

IV. Reactive power compensation selection in chemical industry

According to the characteristics of different time load or different load in the chemical industry's production continuity and power load, it is recommended to use the ARC static output controller for the fixed load of the shunt capacitor when the power load does not change or change slowly. For power load with different time load and different working conditions, ARC dynamic output controller can be selected. According to the serious imbalance of three-phase load, choose ARC-12F or ARC-16F sub-controller.
