Interview with Zhang Xiaoyu, Chairman of China Association of Automobile Engineering

The automotive industry is facing a transition from big to strong

——— Interview with Zhang Xiaoji, Chairman of China Association of Automobile Engineering

At present, China’s auto industry is experiencing an unprecedented period of rapid growth: After surpassing Japan and becoming the world’s second-largest consumer market for new cars, it has thrown off Germany and become the world’s third-largest automobile producer. Driven by the domestic automobile consumer market, China's auto industry has entered the fast lane of development.

At the second session of the First Financial and Economic Auto Industry Summit held during the Shanghai International Auto Show recently, Zhang Xiaoyu, Chairman of the China Association of Automobile Engineering, stated that the next 15 years will be an important period for the development of China’s automobile industry: in accordance with the overall development of China’s automobile industry. With the strategic goal, by 2020, China will develop from a large automobile consumption country into a strong automobile industry.

When asked by reporters how Liaoning's auto industry should seize opportunities and take advantage during the process of revitalizing old industrial bases, Zhang Xiaokai believes that the auto industry belongs to the transportation equipment manufacturing industry and is one of the important contents of the revitalization of the northeast and is also the equipment manufacturing of Liaoning. An important part of the revitalization of the industry. The inherent advantages of Liaoning in machine tool and equipment manufacturing are a good basis for the development of the automobile industry. He remarked that the Liaoning automobile industry should seize the good opportunities of the rapid development of the auto industry, give full play to its own advantages, and catch up, and must not lag behind. Because, if you are thrown away by competitors during the critical period of the development of the automobile industry, it will be even more difficult to catch up in the future.

The status of "great power" has been established

According to statistics, in 2006, the production and sales volume of China's autos reached 7,279,700 and 7,271,600, respectively, which surpassed Germany to become the world’s third largest automobile producer. Not long ago, China had surpassed Japan to become the world’s second largest consumer market for new cars. At the same time, in 2006, China’s commercial vehicle production and sales both exceeded the 2 million mark, the output increased to 2,046,600 units, and the sales volume reached 2.04 million, which is the highest in the world. The fissile growth of the automotive market has made China a big global automobile power.

If we count from the time when the first car manufactured in New China was offline in 1956, by 2006 China's auto industry would have just passed the half-century of wind and rain. For more than 50 years, especially after the reform and opening up and in the new century, the development of the Chinese automobile industry has left many unforgettable and profound memories. In this regard, Zhang Xiaoqi summed it up into three major changes: the growth of quantity, the enhancement of quality, and the openness of the horizon. First of all, China's auto industry has achieved rapid growth in output and sales. When FAW was put into operation in 1956, the national automobile production was about 1,000 vehicles. Since then, it has experienced more than 20 years of planned economy, and it has been through reform and opening up. The development speed during this period was relatively slow. According to statistics, in 1989, China's auto production was only 220,000, of which the production of cars was 4,000; in 1992, China’s automobile output exceeded 1 million for the first time; by 2000, the output reached 2 million. From 1 million to 2 million vehicles, which lasted 8 years, the pace of development of the automotive industry has also gradually accelerated.

In the new century, there has been an incredible change in the growth rate of China's auto industry. During the “10th Five-Year Plan” period, the state explicitly encouraged the sedans to enter the family, and reiterated the development of the automobile industry as a pillar industry of the national economy. Since then, car production has increased by almost 1 million vehicles a year. By 2005, China's auto production reached 5.7 million units; in 2006, it had reached 7.2 million units; if calculated according to the first quarter of this year, this year's auto production will reach 8.5 million units. According to statistics, during the “10th Five-Year Plan” period, China’s auto industry has invested as much as more than 230 billion yuan, which is almost equivalent to the total investment in the previous 20 years; over 24 million vehicles were produced in the same period, which is equivalent to the sum of the previous 20 years. Production is changing with each passing day.

Second, China's auto industry has been qualitatively enhanced. At the time of joining the WTO, China’s automobile industry was once one of the most concerned and most worrying industries. However, after only five years of development, China’s automobile industry has become one of the most exciting industries from one of the most worrying industries. According to the WTO commitments, China last year lifted restrictions on the number of auto import licenses and restrictions on quotas, and the overall level of tariffs on auto parts and vehicles has also dropped to 10% and 25%. At the same time, China’s total auto import trade exceeded 20 billion U.S. dollars last year, exceeding the import commitment that the auto industry’s import amount increased by 15% per year on a base of 6 billion U.S. dollars until all quotas were cancelled. In the process of responding to the challenge of the global auto industry, China's auto industry has achieved a qualitative enhancement.

Based on the above two points, China's auto industry has seen a third huge change in planning its future development, namely, the openness of the horizon. At present, China has already determined the development goal of building a powerful automobile industry. According to this goal, by 2020, China's auto production will reach 20 million vehicles a year, accounting for 25% of the global share; the value-added of the automobile industry will reach 3% of GDP; and the annual production and sales capacity of 2 to 3 companies will reach 400 More than 10,000 enterprise groups; The product's independent development technology level is close to that of Japan and South Korea, and the self-developed products account for more than 70% of the domestic market share.

The road to “powerful country” is near

As of the end of 2006, the number of China’s civilian vehicles had reached 49.85 million, of which 29.25 million were private cars; the number of civilian cars had reached 15.45 million, of which 11.49 million were private cars. At present, the proportion of private purchases of cars has increased to around 77%. The increase in private cars and private car ownership has clearly exceeded the growth rate of car and car ownership. Private car ownership accounts for more than 50% of the total social car ownership in the entire society. . With strong market forces, the realization of the dream of a powerful country in the automotive industry in China is not far off.

Zhang Xiaoji believes that the next 15 years will be a critical period for the development of China's automobile industry. "To meet the needs of building a well-to-do society in an all-round way," "to achieve resource conservation and environmentally friendly development," and "to serve the building of a harmonious society," will become the development of the automotive industry. The three core concepts.

At present, China has clearly put forward the development goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way. To this end, the national economy must maintain a sustained and stable growth. According to relevant experts, real estate is the main driving force for economic development in the next 20 years. In the next 30 years, the automobile industry will be replaced by new economic development forces. It is estimated that by 2010, China's auto production will exceed 10 million; by 2020, the auto production will reach 20 million, and China will probably become the world's largest automotive domestic manufacturing country by then.

In the process of development, the automobile industry is also well subordinated to the goal of establishing a resource-saving and environment-friendly society. The development of the automotive industry requires a lot of energy and resources. Therefore, taking the road of resource conservation and environment-friendly development is the top priority for the future development of the automotive industry. In addition, the exhaust gas emitted during the use of automobiles also makes the automotive industry shoulder the important task of environmental protection. Throughout the world, in order to deal with the increasingly severe environmental problems brought about by economic development, Europe has accelerated the pace of control of vehicle exhaust emission standards. By 2010, the "Euro 6" emission standard will begin to be implemented. According to the current development plan, China will implement the “National 4” emission standard at that time, and the pace of environmental protection needs to be accelerated. In addition, carbon dioxide has not been classified as a harmful gas in our country's emission standards. If we consider it from the perspective of environmental protection, this aspect is still blank. Saving fuel, saving resources, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions are all new challenges facing China's auto industry in the future.

In addition, the realization of the development goals of a powerful automobile country is an inevitable requirement for building a harmonious socialist society. In China’s vast rural areas, the concept of “Building for the Rich, Building Roads First”, and even “Thinking of getting rich quickly, you need to repair the express road” has already been deeply rooted in people’s hearts. In the development plan for building a new socialist countryside, the primary task is to accelerate the construction of rural highways. In the next few years, China will invest hundreds of billions of yuan in the construction of 1.2 million kilometers of rural roads. The purpose of road construction is to open the car, so the development and growth of the automobile industry will provide the vast number of rural residents with transportation tools to the rich.
