"Commercial Auto News": What does the joint venture between MAN and CNHTC mean to Man? What do you expect from Man?

Dominique Nadelhofer: Man has always had a major strategic goal, that is, to increase the market share in emerging markets, among which we place the highest importance on the BRIC countries.

In 2006, Man set up a joint venture in India; at the beginning of this year, it acquired the Volkswagen's commercial vehicle base to enter the Brazilian market; at the same time, Mann also had a certain share of the imported vehicle sales in Russia. Therefore, China is our last major strategic deployment.

As the world’s fastest growing market for heavy trucks, Man’s heavy trucks’ share in this market is not satisfactory. Being able to obtain long-term cooperation opportunities with China National Heavy Duty Truck will certainly provide us with opportunities for continuous growth in the Chinese market. With this cooperation with CNHTC, Mann will provide highly efficient Euro III-Europe V-series engine products and hopes to enhance its heavy-duty truck production platform to produce heavy-duty truck products that are more in line with the Chinese market and export demand. Dominique Nadelhofer: Just now I mentioned that China is an important strategic place for us to expand into emerging markets. Over the years, we have always hoped to find suitable partners in China. Of course, you mentioned these companies, Man once had initial contact with them. It should be said that for the Chinese market, we hope to find the most suitable partner, and I believe that we can also find the right partner.

Mann has always been associated with heavy steam. In 1984, China National Heavy Duty Truck has introduced the Steyr technology platform. As of today, the share of China National Heavy Duty Truck in China's heavy truck market has increased from 12% in 2004 to 20% in 2008. Sinotruk is one of the few commercial vehicle companies in China that focuses on heavy trucks. At the same time, we have also seen Sinotruk's experience in manufacturing. After several months of negotiations, we realized that this cooperation is a powerful combination, and both parties use their advantages to make up for their shortcomings. Therefore, we have full confidence in this cooperation.

Dominique Nadelhofer: Since the selection of China National Heavy Duty Truck, it shows that Mann's cooperation with Sinotruk is full of confidence. Sinotruk has always focused on heavy trucks. Therefore, we have reason to believe that the new heavy trucks we cooperate with will be superior to existing heavy truck products in the Chinese market in terms of technology and environmental indicators. We also believe that new trucks will be welcomed by Chinese users.

"Commercial Auto News": The new brand to be launched is to redesign and reflect the cooperation between the two parties? Will it use heavy truck or Mann's brand?

Dominique Nadelhofer: Emerging trucks will have a new name, and will not use heavy truck or Manchester as a brand .

"Commercial Auto News": Who will use the brand when exporting? Will you borrow Mann's network?

Dominique Nadelhofer: The target market for the new series of trucks is mainly emerging countries including China. Currently, Sinotruk and Mann have already done a division of labor in the regions where they sell. For example, the sales rights of the new series of trucks in China will be assigned to China National Heavy Duty Truck, we will not intervene; Man will be responsible for sales of new series of trucks in the EU and Brazil. In other markets, Mann will cooperate with Sinotruk to sell a new series of trucks.

"Commercial Auto News": Is there any cooperation plan with Weichai and Shaanxi Auto?

Dominique Nadelhofer: In the Chinese market, Man will not plan to buy a second truck company. Therefore, we will focus on cooperation with China National Heavy Duty Truck. However, in other markets, if there are suitable opportunities, we will still find suitable partners to jointly expand the local market.
