NYK orders Alfa Laval ballast water system

It is reported that Nippon Yusen Shipping Co., Ltd. (NYK) is one of the world's top shipping companies. The company has ordered the Pureballast ballast water treatment system for Alfa Laval for two of its ships and installed it in the fall of 2011. The ballast water treatment system is the first non-chemical ballast water treatment system certified by the International Maritime Organization and is also the first installation at a Japanese shipyard.
Since Alfa Laval launched the system in 2006, a total of 200 PureBallast systems have been put into use or ordered, with throughputs ranging from 250-2500 m3/hr. Among them, about 10% of the orders are used for ship renovation.
In early July, Alfa Laval successfully completed the renovation of the ballast water treatment system on the Hanjin Semarang, an 845TEU container ship built in 2008 by the Kyokuyo shipyard in Japan. The order was ordered by ICONS Corporation's subsidiary, IMECS Ltd., in February. Sasebo HI is responsible for engineering design and installation supervision and is specifically constructed by Malaysia Maritime and Heavy Engineering Corporation (MMHE) in Malaysia.
