Physics and Chemistry of photonic crystal super-invasive research made new progress

The special optical tuning properties of photonic crystals make them important applications in optics such as sensing, catalysis, and detection. Due to the special wettability of photonic crystals which gives them more excellent properties and new applications, the research on photonic crystal super-wettability has drawn much attention.

With the strong support of the NSFC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a series of important progresses have been made in the preparation and application of ultra-infiltrating photonic crystals by physicists at Key Laboratory of Bionic Materials and Interface Sciences of the Physical and Chemical Institute. The researchers examined the effect of substrate wetting on the morphology of the latex particles in photonic crystal assembly units (Adv. Mater. Inter. 2015, 1400365; J. Mater. Chem. C 2015, 3, 2445) (Chem. Commun. 2015, 51, 1367) and bread-shaped (Chem. Commun. 2016, 52, 3619) anisotropic photonic crystals with special optical functions were realized. Photonic crystal microarrays with good optical waveguide behavior were prepared using special infiltration control of the substrate (ACS Appl. Interf. 2016, 8, 4985). Further utilizing the gradient wettability of the prepared polyionic liquid inverse opal structure photonic crystals, a photonic crystal driver having a single structure was produced (Chem. Commun. 2016, 52, 5924).

Recently, the researchers systematically summarized the contribution of photonic crystals to their applications. From the perspective of the special wettability of photonic crystals in nature, this paper summarizes the construction ideas and related examples of ultra-infiltrating photonic crystals and the sensing, detection, antifouling, driving, oil-water separation, etc. New application (Chem.
