Ford Motor Sales in China Rose 20% YoY in March

According to data published by Ford Motor Company, in March, Ford sold 53,440 units in the Chinese market, a jump of 20% from the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2011, Ford Motor China’s total sales increased by 19% year-on-year to 140,566 units.

"The strong first-quarter sales show that more and more Chinese consumers are attracted by Ford auto products with first-class fuel economy, cost-effectiveness and smart technology." Ford Motor Co., president of Asia Pacific Africa, Chairman and CEO of Ford China Joe Hinrichs said, “Recently, we launched the 2011 new Ford Mondeo-Success win with the EcoBoost GTDi engine and PowerShift transmission in the Chinese market. With its direct-injection turbocharger technology and dual clutch 6-speed gearbox, 2011 New Mondeo - Success can reduce fuel consumption by 20% and CO2 emissions by 15%.”

“We will bring Chinese consumers with products they want and love at a faster pace.” Han Ruixi said, “Ford Motor Company will present its innovative products and technologies to Asia for the first time at the upcoming Shanghai International Auto Show. These include three new electric models and a new concept car that represents the direction of Ford's future compact SUV design."

On March 17, 2011, the new Ford Mondeo-Zhisheng was officially listed on the Chinese market. With Ford's latest power technology system - EcoBoost GTDi direct injection turbocharged engine and PowerShift dual clutch transmission, 2011 new Ford Mondeo - winning quickly won the recognition of Chinese consumers, the first month of listing achieved 6,901 sales.

The popular Ford Focus and the new Ford Fiesta continue their strong sales momentum. In March, Ford Focus achieved sales of 18,247 units in a single month, a 23% increase year-on-year, pushing its total sales volume in the first quarter to exceed 50,000 units in one fell swoop, a record high. The new Ford Fiesta continues to lead the market in its segment, with 19,211 sales in the first quarter.

In March 2011, Ford Motor Co., Ltd., a joint venture of passenger cars in China, sold a total of 42,157 units of Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd., an increase of 16% year-on-year. In the first quarter, the total sales volume of Changan Ford Mazda Motor Co. exceeded 100,000 units to 106,009 units.

Ford Motor Company's commercial vehicle investment company in China - Jiangling Motors Co., Ltd. sold 55,443 units in the first quarter of the month, an increase of 34% year-on-year. Jiangling’s outstanding performance was attributed to continued strong sales of the Ford Transit Commercial Vehicle. In the first quarter, Ford Transit continued to lead the industry with a year-on-year increase of 37%.
