Hyundai-Kia Motors, Korea’s number one automaker, announced that in March 2011, Hyundai Motor’s global sales volume increased by 1.7% year-on-year to 325,000 units. In the same period, Kia Motors’ global sales growth reached 30%, reaching 181,000 units.
Hyundai Motor Co. released data showing that in March 2011, the company’s domestic sales in Korea increased by 4.6% to 62,000 vehicles. Among them, passenger car sales were 39,000 units, an increase of 9.6%, while SUV sales fell 25.9% to 6,460 units. Hyundai Motor sold a total of 263,000 overseas vehicles in Korea, up 1% year-on-year, while cars exported from South Korea accounted for 85,000 vehicles, down 11.1%.
Kia Motors announced that data showed that in March 2011, the company’s domestic sales in Korea were 46,000, an increase of 23.1%, while overseas sales were 135,000, an increase of 32.2%.
In addition, the sales of General Motors Korea (formerly General Motors Daewoo) increased by 7.8% to 68,000 units in March. In the same period, Renault Samsung sold 10,000 vehicles, an increase of 82% year-on-year. The Indian car company Mahindra Holdings's Ssangyong Motors Sales also exceeded 10,000 vehicles.
