UNEP announces "Green Economy Report"
The United Nations Environment Programme recently released the "Green Economy Report" in Nairobi, Kenya. The report stated that from now until 2050, investing 2% of the global GDP in 10 major economic sectors each year will facilitate the global transition to a low carbon and green economy. This report was released on the opening day of UNEP’s 26th Board Meeting and the Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nairobi. It was written collectively by experts from both developed and developing countries and depicted a new blueprint for sustainable economic development. According to the report, according to the current data, 2% of the global GDP is about 1.3 trillion US dollars. Under the guidance of green economic policies at national and international levels, investing this money in 10 economic sectors such as agriculture, construction, energy, fisheries, forestry, manufacturing, tourism, and transportation will inject new energy into economic development. Motivation will also generate a large number of employment opportunities, which will be crucial for eliminating extreme poverty, while reducing the risks associated with climate change and water shortages. The report believes that a green economy means making better use of natural resources and achieving sustainable growth. It is a more effective and more just economic model. Achim Steiner, Executive Director of UNEP, said at the opening ceremony: “We faced issues such as the development of confrontation with the environment, the opposition between the government and the market, and the opposition between the North and the South. Now we must go beyond this concept of opposition.†He said: “There are still 2.5 billion people in the world who rely on less than US$ 2 a day for each day. By 2050, the world’s population will increase by more than 2 billion. We obviously must continue to develop and achieve economic growth. But this development cannot be achieved. To the detriment of land, sea, or life support systems in the atmosphere, these systems sustain our economy and thus sustain the lives of each of us. And the question of how to make human activities not exceed Earth's carrying capacity, the green economy Provides a key part of the answer."
