Use of thenardite and technical and economic indicators
Glauber's salt is a raw material for light industry and chemical industry. In the chemical industry, it is mainly used to prepare anhydrous sodium sulfate and to produce sodium sulfide. It can also be used to prepare sodium silicate, barium sulfate and the like. They are widely used in more than 20 industries such as chemical, light industry, textile, building materials and medicine. In China, currently, thenardite is mainly used in the detergent and sodium sulfide industries, followed by pulp, man-made fiber and glass industries. The product quality reference standards for sodium sulfate decahydrate (glauber salt, grubs salt) and the quality standards for medicinal sodium sulfate (diarrhea) products issued by the Ministry of Health (Medical Standards issued by the Ministry of Health) are shown in Tables 2 and 3. Sodium sulphate is widely used in industrial sectors such as pulp, detergent, glass, dyes and textiles, as well as raw materials for water glass, ultramarine and other chemical products. In addition, mineral, leather, pharmaceutical, enamel, synthetic fibers, inks, rubber and compound fertilizers, agents and lightweight materials blended cement, concrete additive for non-ferrous metals also. As catalyst in the synthesis and preparation of organic chemicals; or supplement to reduce the aluminum oxide in the manufacture of sodium hydroxide and the like.
Sodium sulfide, also known as sodium sulphide, is also widely used in the national economy. Mainly used in papermaking, leather, mining, sulphur dyes manufacturing, textile printing and dyeing industry and industrial wastewater treatment for mercury removal, aluminum and so on. In addition, it is also used in sodium polysulfide, organic synthesis, film and so on.
For sodium sulfate products and their technical and economic indicators, most countries have no uniform national standards except for the strict requirements of the former Soviet Union and the United States. Foreign companies generally only guarantee the content of main components (Na 2 SO 4 ) and water, and the content of other impurities is more dependent on the specific requirements of users.
The National Standard (GB6009-92) issued by the State Administration of Standards of China in 1992 divided anhydrous sodium sulfate into three categories and five grades. The specific requirements are shown in Table 1 (some other manufacturers also produce crude nitrate with a Na 2 SO 4 content of 85%).
